Dudley and Bob with Matt — 93.7 KLBJ-FM, Austin — Wednesday, October 19, 2016
Part 3: Daniel New Wave Game
Daniel organized an on-air gay speed dating segment featuring Sase (former intern) as the dater meeting four Latino men, facilitated by OnSpeedDating.com. Bobby was chosen as Sase’s date and won a dinner at ALC Steaks. Later, the show attempted Daniel’s New Wave music trivia contest, which became chaotic when Daniel pulled obscure album tracks instead of radio hits, leading to no one identifying most songs. Matt dominated by knowing the deeper cuts.
Segments
- Gay Speed Dating Setup [00:00:00] — Dale realizes they have no dinner prize arranged for the gay speed dating segment and quickly emails ALC Steaks. The hosts discuss the mechanics and introduce Amber from OnSpeedDating.com.

- Date #1: Bobby [00:03:47] — Bobby, 32, from Brownsville, works in marketing/PR and travels between Manhattan and Austin. Sase and Bobby discuss musicals (Wicked, Rent), RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2, and their shared UT background. Strong chemistry evident.
- Date #2: Carlos [00:08:35] — Carlos, an interior designer and on-air personality, brings flowers. They discuss Los Angeles nightlife, foreign films versus commercial movies, and Carlos’s preference for indie films with emotional depth. Conversation flows but less spark than Bobby.
- Date #3: Steven [00:13:58] — Steven, a hairdresser at Ruiz Salon from Corpus Christi, discusses favorite movies (Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion), comedians (Amy Schumer), and attending a trans/lesbian wedding in North Carolina. Friendly but reserved chemistry.
- Date #4: Scott [00:17:48] — Scott, the ‘token white boy’ who works reception at Ruiz Salon and is transitioning to real estate, discusses Home Alone tradition with his father, favorite movies (Devil Wears Prada, Death Becomes Her), and ideal date involving cheese and wine at Pennybacker Bridge.
- Sase’s Choice [00:21:19] — Sase selects Bobby for having the most natural conversation flow. Dale and Bob both admit they thought Bobby would win based on looks. ALC Steaks provides dinner for the couple. Behind-the-scenes connections were also forming among other contestants.

- New Wave Contest Disaster [00:44:00] — Contest reveals Daniel pulled obscure album tracks instead of radio hits. Bob gets nothing right. Matt identifies Mad World (Tears for Fears), Everything Counts (Depeche Mode), Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division), The Forest (Cure), and She’s in Parties (Bauhaus). Dale and Bob increasingly frustrated.
- Contest Fallout and Song Reveals [00:47:00] — Hosts discover Daniel used jetpunk.com quiz instead of Billboard charts. Songs included Simple Minds’ ‘Celebrate’ and OMD’s ‘Electricity’—deep cuts never played on radio. Dale demonstrates how easy it would have been to find actual radio hits like Cars, Whip It, or Don’t You Forget About Me.
- Winners and Prize Confusion [00:56:50] — Jacques (Matt’s caller) wins F1 tickets, Tim (Dale’s caller) gets WWE row three. Caller points out LA Lloyd is also giving away row three WWE tickets in the afternoon—potential prize conflict discovered at show end.
