Part 3: Pizza talk continues!

The show concludes its multi-day pizza transportation debate by calling Daniel’s brother-in-law Steve in Vancouver, who confirms he wants the Home Slice pizza and is fine with Daniel carrying it on the plane unrefrigerated for up to 36 hours. The hosts are incredulous at Steve’s casual attitude toward food safety. The segment devolves into discussions about TSA, customs, airport security, and Dale announces he’s likely signing a new long-term contract with the station. The final minutes feature callers about pronunciation (‘herbs’ vs ‘erbs’), Daniel’s confusion about road signs saying ‘JCT’ (he thinks they all point to the town of Junction, Texas), and confirmation that recurring caller Billy is a real person.

Segments

  • Opening – FBI internal fighting discussion [00:00:03] — Dale mentions wanting to discuss FBI internal political fighting but can’t recall the exact point. Transitions to calling Daniel’s brother-in-law Steve.
  • Calling Steve in Vancouver [00:01:02] — The hosts call Daniel’s brother-in-law Steve in West Vancouver to settle the pizza debate. Bob compares it to interviewing Billy Joel or Bruce Springsteen in terms of Daniel’s reverence for his in-laws.
  • Steve confirms he wants the pizza [00:02:22] — Steve confirms he asked Daniel for two things: scotch and a pepperoni pizza from Home Slice. He’s fine with Daniel just carrying the pizza on the plane unrefrigerated. Steve reveals his 36-hour rule for eating pizza left out.
  • Steve’s endorsement of the plan [00:10:18] — Steve says Daniel should just order the pizza the night before, leave it on the counter, and bring it on the plane. He’d eat pizza that’s been sitting out for up to 36 hours because ‘those people have iron stomachs.’
  • Cuba salt story [00:12:43] — Steve mentions he went to Cuba 15 years ago and there was ‘very little flavor in the food.’ Dale explains Daniel takes such statements completely literally.
  • Dale’s contract announcement [00:19:06] — Dale announces he’s likely signing a new long-term contract with the station today, praising management (Scott and Chase) for being complimentary and open to negotiations. Says it looks better than it has in maybe 20 years and he’ll finish his career here.

  • Daniel’s salsa and road sign questions [00:54:00] — Daniel asks what the difference is between regular salsa and ‘restaurant style’ salsa (marketing term). He also reveals he’s been confused by road signs saying ‘JCT’ thinking they all point to the town of Junction, Texas, not understanding it means ‘junction’ as in intersection.
  • Pronunciation debate caller [00:56:30] — Caller Paul objects to Dale saying ‘erbs’ instead of ‘herbs’ with the H pronounced. The hosts mock him using the ‘peaches and herb’ example and discuss pronunciation differences.

  • unnamed female caller [01:01:31] — Called to clarify that the border agent saying ‘herbs’ with the H was Australian/British, while Americans say ‘erbs’ Dale thanked her but noted the agent was Australian, not British
